Divide the rhizome during spring.
Note:
Care should be taken when planting as Common Reed can become rampant, covering large areas.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green linear leaves appear at the nodes and the base is tightly sheaved. The narrow leaf is up to 30mm (1¥in) wide and tapers to an acuminate apex.
Flower: The spikelets contain several florets and are arranged on a dense purplish, branched drooping panicle that is up to 300mm (1ft) long and is held above the foliage on a slender scape that appears during midsummer.
Fruit: The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
