Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green linear leaves have a margin that is scabrous and is up to 6mm (1/4in) wide.
Flower: The lanceolate to oblong spikelets are arranged in groups of 2 to 6-along the stems. The female has a modified glume that forms a utricle. This is ridged and forms a 3mm (1/8in) beak that is deeply notched. They appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The small flattened nut is 3 angular and contains viable seeds.
