Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green long linear leaves are up to 5mm (1/4in) wide and is scabrous along the margins.
Flower: The spike-like panicle is up to 20cm (8in) long consisting of numerous spikelets that have both male and female flowers. The female is surrounded by a utricle and the panicle appears from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The tiny nut is flat and the utricle has a slightly notched beak that is scabropubescent. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
