Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. The seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green narrow lanceolate phyllodes have a central vein that ends in a curved or straight apex. The width is up to 8mm (1/2in) wide and the phyllodes have two glands at the base.
Flower: The small ball-shaped inflorescence contains up to 12 tinybisexual tubulate flowers that have inconspicuous sepals and petals with prominentstamens and are arranged in a raceme with 8 to 12 clusters from autumn to spring.
Fruit: The contorted flattened pods are up to 12mm (1/2in) wide with raised margins and are constricted between the seeds. The dull black seeds are arranged longitudinally in the pod and have fleshy aril on one side.
General information on pruning Acacia species
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
