Propagation
Sow fresh seeds from autumn to spring in pots and in cold climates place in a cold frame.

Take root cuttings during winter.
Divide offsets during spring.

Note:
Medicinally it is used internally for chronic liver or gall bladder disease and for diabetes.
The unopened flower heads are boiled and eaten with melted butter or are fried and baked.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leaf shape is elliptical to broad lanceolate and has a deeply lobed or pinnatifid margin that may be again lobed. The segments are pointy with greyish hairs on the upper surface and densely white-pubescent on the underside.

Flower: The tiny flower-heads are arranged in a terminal corymb that is up to 150mm (6in) wide and is surrounded by fleshy bracts. It appears during mid-summer.

Fruit: The tiny seeds have a pappus that is plumose. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
