Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe in containers or in situ.

Take semi hardwood cuttings during summer. Keep moist and humid until the rooting occurs and pot up into a well drained, fertile media.


Botanic information
Leaf: The broad ovate to circular leaves have a long acuminate apex and a petiole up to 200 mm (7µ in) long attaching towards the centre of the leaf. The upper surface is glossy green with reddish pinnate venation and the underside is pale green covered in short, pubescence. The new growth has prominent triangular stipules that are up to 12 mm (½ in) long.

Flower: The small male and female flowers appear on separate trees and are arranged in an axillary panicle that appears during spring. They are normally insignificant and not a feature of the plant.

Fruit: The globose 3-lobed green capsule is covered in soft prickles and is sticky appearing on female plants. It contains black seeds that are highly viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
