Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F).

Divide established clumps during early spring or late summer.

Note:
Care should be taken as all parts of the plant are poisonous and the sap may irritate your skin. Keep away from pets and children.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery texture trifoliate leaves are up to 400 mm (16 in) wide and is composed of 7 to 11 elliptical to lanceolate leaflets that have undulating, serrated margins. The petiole a short and the apex are acute.

Flower: The large nodding crateriform flowers are arranged in loose clusters that are held above the foliage from late winter to spring. There are many varieties available in a range of colours from green, white, pink to purple and appear from winter to spring.

Fruit: The small follicle produces small seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.

Culture
Helleborus orientalisgrows best in a partially shaded to heavy shaded position in humus rich moist soils but will tolerate dry conditions. In mild climates it flowers during mid winter and spring in cold climates. The plants dislike being moved and will recovers slowly.
