Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Take soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn. Graft onto rootstock during late summer or during winter under glass.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are ovate to oblong up to 70mm (2µin) wide and deeply bipinnatifid with 3 to 5 lobes up to 20mm (µin) long. the lobes are linear to triangularstiff with a pungent apex and the margins are slightly recurved.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have a short pedicle and ovoid-shaped villous perianth segments and the exserted pink style is up to 25mm (1in) long. They are arranged in a one-sided terminal raceme up to 90mm (3½in) long, appearing from spring to early summer.
Fruit: The obovoid follicle is up to 9mm (?in) wide with a villous pericarp and contain ridged elliptical seeds to 8mm (?in) long with waxy margins. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
The leathery fruit is brittle when dry and normally contains two winged seeds.
