Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in situ or in boxes and prick out when large enough to handle.

Note:
When the foliage is crushed it has a disagreeable smell giving the plant its common name 'Smoke' and a sharp tasting drink is made from the plant that brings tears to your eyes.
If plant parts are ingested it may cause stomach upset and diarrhoea.

Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green pinnate leaves are composed of triangular leaflets that are toothed or with narrow divisions and are arranged alternately towards the end of the branches.

Flower: The small pink-purple tubulate flowers have 4-petals with the 2 outer being spurred. It also has 2-scale-like sepals and 6-stamens in two bundles. There are 10 to 40 flowers arranged in a loose raceme that appears from spring to summer.

Fruit: The small goblet-shaped nut has a large shallow pit at the apex and becomes rugose when dry.
