Propagation
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring with 3 to 4 canes.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaf shape is broad lanceolate up to 255mm (10in) wide and when young it is coated in a whitish powder and arranged spirally on reed-like stems. The margin is curved upwards forming a concave upper surface and the petiole is up to 3m (10ft) long.
Flower: The purple tubulate flowers are accompanied by pale-blue bracts and arranged in 2-ranks in a terminal panicle on long scape. They appear during summer.
Fruit: The capsule has an outer fleshy layer and is enclosed by bracts. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
