Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.

Botanic information

Leaf: The adult grey-green leaves are narrow-lanceolate with reddish twigs and petioles. The texture is thick, leathery and the leaf has faint venation on the upper surface.

Flower: The ribbed buds are arranged in groups of 3 on flattened stalks and the square operculum is brilliant red with a raised embossed cross. The calyx is emerald green and the buds; flowers and old buds appear at once giving a spectacular display during mid-summer.

Fruit: The bell-shaped capsule is woody with a fleshy disk.

General pruning information
Eucalyptusspecies require little pruning apart from removal of damaged or dead wood, which should be taken off at the collar. If the tree is cut back hard it will produce epicormic shoots and the crown may be lifted or thinned by removal of selected branches.
