Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F). Germination may take up to 3 months and pot up into a deep container.
Botanic information
Leaf: The blue-green pinnate fronds are composed of folded lanceolate leaflets that taper to a point and at the base they are reduced to sharp spines. The leaflets face downward and dead leaves are persistent on the trunk.
Flower: The small cyathiform flowers have 3-petals with the female and male flowers appear on a different plant. The flowers are arranged on a much-branched panicle that appears from the leaf bases and has a flattened stalk, during summer.
Fruit: The fleshy oblong drupe is purplish-red and the elongated seed has a distinct longitudinal groove.
