Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F). Germination may take up to 6 months.
Botanic information
Leaf: This palm has no crown shaft and the dull green pinnate leaves have segments that are arranged in vertical rows. The upright leaves droop with age and are composed of ridged linear folded leaflets that are forward pointing with a slightly 2 lobed apex.
Flower: The 2-small male and 1-female cyathiform flowers are arranged on the one panicle that is up to 1.5m (5ft) long. The male flower has 3-pointed petals and 3-narrow sepals that are joined at the base. The female flowers have 3-overlapping petals and 3-broad sepals. They appear during summer.
Fruit: The woody ovoid drupe has a fleshy slightly fibrous mesocarp and thin coated seed has a non-ruminate endosperm. The endosperm may be eaten and tastes simular to coconut.
