Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. The seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The adult leaves are ovate to broad-ovate with a thick petiole up to 40 mm (11/4 in) long. The upper surface is glabrous and the underside is covered in velvety down. It has an obtuse apex and the surface has obvious raised veins.
Flower: The campanulate flowers are composed of a green calyx and a corolla with 5-white lobes with purple marks. It has 2-upper short lobes and the 3-lower are long spreading lobes and has 4-incurved stamens. They are arranged in a terminal panicle that is held above the foliage on a slender peduncle appearing during early summer.
Fruit: The succulent berry is slightly flattened on one side with a persistent calyx at its base. The 10mm (? in) size seed may be difficult to store or germinate as it has a hard seed coat.
