Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Take soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn. Graft onto rootstock during late summer or during winter under glass.
Botanic information
Leaf: The ascending pointed leaves are ovate to obovate up to 15 mm (? in) wide and the undersides are pale green with some silky pubescence. The petiole is short and the apex is acute to obtuse with a mucronate tip.
Flower: The red rarely cream flower has a projecting pistil up to 25mm (1in) long and a pedicle up to 8mm (? in) long. The flowers are arranged in a dense sub-globose conflorescence that is up to 40mm long with a peduncle up to 10mm (?in) long.They appear from late spring to summer.
Fruit: The woody ovoid glabrous fruit is a 7 mm wide and contains a 2-oblong seeds that is up to 12 mm (½ in)long by 3 mm (2/16 in)wide and have a small winged at the apex that is up to 2 mm long. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
