Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Take soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn. Graft onto rootstock during late summer or during winter under glass.
Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green narrow linear leaves have a soft texture and are pubescent with a striate surface. The apex is acute and the petiole is short.
Flower: The small almost sessile tubulate flowers have cylindrical perianth segments and the pistil is up to 12mm (½in) long. The flowers are arranged in a short axillary raceme and the main flowering period is spring but it may be seen throughout the year.
Fruit: The lateral follicle is broad elliptical in shape and has a leathery texture that becomes brittle. The obovoid seed is up to 7mm (¥in) long with revolute margins that are bordered with a waxy wing.
