Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.

Divide offsets during spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The blue-green leaves are linear to long lanceolate with spines along the margin and on the underside mid rib. The texture is stiff and leathery and they tend to bend or fold downwards.

Flower: The branched male flowers are white to cream, fragrant and composed of many stamens. They are arranged in spikes that have spathe-like bracts. The solitary female flowers grow to 50 mm (2in) wide and are found on a different tree.They appear during summer.

Fruit: The ovoid pendulous fruit is composed of many tightly packed drupes and has a fleshy endocarp resembling a pineapple. On maturity the fruit turns yellow-orange and the fruit become soft and pulpy. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
