Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19ºC to 24ºC. Seeds may require soaking over night to soften the seed coat.

This plant is difficult to transplant as it has a fine root system.


Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green leaves are linear to lanceolate and have a thick leathery texture. The petiole is short and the apex is obtuse.

Flower: The purple tubulate flowers have reflexed petals and an exserted style with a yellow-gold tip. They are arranged in a globular spike that is up to 50mm (2in) wide and appears from late winter to early spring.

Fruit: The fruit is rounded heads of small nutlets and is dispersed by gravity.The rounded woody cone-like seed head is a distinguishing feature of the genus.
