Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery glossy green leaves are ovate to reniform normally with a cordate base and the margin is entire to serrate. The petiole is 80mm to 250mm (9µin) long and the leaves may be wavy.

Flower: The flower shape varies from stellate to crateriform and the flowers float on or held above the water surface on a slender scape. There is a wide range in flower colour and many cultivars have multiple colours. The flowers may or may not be fragrant and normally last for one day during summer.

Fruit: The small spongy berry-like capsule matures under water and breaks open when ripe releasing numerous seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
