Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F). The seed coat has to be scarified prior to sowing.

Note:
Commercial plants are grafted to obtain maximum fruiting quality.
Seedling plants are variable and for good fruiting stock plant are grafted.


Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile lanceolate leaves have a leathery texture with prickly toothed margins that may be wavy. They are arranged in whorls of 3 to 4. The new growth is reddish becoming dark green when mature.

Flower: The small white to pink tubulate flowers are arranged in a cylindrical spike that appears in pairs from the leaf axils during spring.

Fruit: The globular nut is green taking up to 9 months to mature to a glossy brown colour and has a hard seed coat. The seeds fall from the tree when mature.
