Propagation
Sow fresh seed as soon as it is ripe and maintain a temperature of18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F). Surface sow and do not allow it to dry out.
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring with 3 to 4 canes planted in a sandy medium and placed in a humid position for 1 to 2 years before planting out.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid to dark green linear leaves point downwards and the terminal leaf is larger and they are arranged on branches that are almost horizontal to the stem.
Flower: The rare flowers are hermaphrodite and are pollinated by wind and appear about every 15 to 100 years. The plant will be weakened or my die after flowering.
Fruit: The small seed is not normally seen and has a short viability period. It is dispersed by water and gravity but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively..
The young shoots can be cooked and eaten.
