Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º C. This plant may be difficult to germinate.

Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark brown leaves are reduced to sheaths and are inconspicuous. From the leaf axils barren stems have tassel-like divided branchlets that form in clusters.

Flower: The spikelets are arranged in a loose terminal panicle that is held above the tasselled branchlets. The male and female flowers appear on different plants (Dioecious) during spring.

Fruit: The 2 to 3 angled capsules are flat opening on the angles and seeds are dispersed by birds, gravity and water. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
