Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F).
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during spring and semi hardwood cuttings during summer.
Root division during spring to summer.
Note:
Under ideal conditions it can become a weed requiring control by physical removal of the plant and its taproot.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pinnate leaves have 7 to 11 dark green leaflets that are ovate and up to 100mm (4in long). They are slightly pubescent on the mid rib and on the undersides. The leaflet apex is acuminate and are short-stalked.
Flower: The flowers are tubulate to funnelform with 5-spreading petals that form a wide mouth. They appear on the current season's growth during summer and are arranged in a terminal cyme that has 4 to 12 blooms. The flower colour varies from orange to red and the yellowish calyx has triangular lobes.
Fruit: The capsules are long and dehiscent containing numerous flattened winged seeds that are dispersed by wind. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
