Propagation
This plant is not normally cultivated for ornamental purposes in Australia.
Sow seed during spring in a well-drained media and keep moist.
Take stem cuttings during summer.
Note:
This is a difficult weed to control and in Sydney Australia it is found in urban areas in and around gardens. The taproot and fibrous rootlets must be removed or poisoned otherwise it just regrow`s.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green leaves are ovate to lanceolate and the margin is slightly sinuate. The apex is obtuse and the petiole is short and the upper surface has 3 to 5 veins.
Flower: The tiny flowers have 1 to 3 green bracts that are covered in sticky hairs and appear in the leaf axils from spring to summer.
Fruit: The nut produces small dark brown to black seeds that are dispersed by attachment, water and wind. The viability is short but seeds will germinate any time of the year with moisture and a temperature of 10 to 28 deg. C.
