Propagation
This plant is not normally cultivated for ornamental purposes in Australia.
Sow seed during spring at an optimum temperature of 22º to 25º C.
Culture
This plant can be confused with Sida corrugataan Australian native species.
Control methods
The seed heads should be bagged and the plants physically removed though this may be difficult as it has a deep kinked tap rootso cut the stump of older plants then paint on undiluted glyphosate. The plants may also be sprayed with 1% glyphosate.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dull dark green leaves are ovate-rhomboid covered fine tomentose and the underside is pail green. The margins are irregular toothed and the leaves are up to 20mm (µin)wide.
Flower: The yellow cyathiform flowers appear solitary in the leaf axils and the pedicle is normally bent just before the flower. They appaear from spring to summer.
Fruit: The dark brown capsule produces a 2 mm long seeds that have two backward barbed awns that assist in dispersal by attachment. It is also dispersed using water, mud and rubbish dumping. The seed coat is hard and remains viable for many years.
