Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green cordate leaves have a prickly surface and are lighter green on the underside. The apex is acute and the petiole is long, thick and fleshy.

Flower: The 5-pettled bright yellow funnelform flowers appear in the leaf axils from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The fruit is a pepo, which is an accessory type and has an inferior ovary with many seeds and an outer wall that is firm and hard.
