Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F).

Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during spring and semi hardwood cuttings during summer.
Divide established clumps during spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leaf size, shape and arrangement varies depending on the cultivar. They are normally narrow-lanceolate to ovate with some having sparsely serrated margins. The leaves are sessile or have short petiole.

Flower: The lipped tubulate flowers are swollen towards the centre giving it a campanulate-like shape. The upper lobe has 2-lips and the lower 3-lips. They arranged in a terminal raceme or panicle that appears from late spring to summer. There is a large colour range including bi-colours.

Note
The flowers have 5-stamens 4-fertile and one sterile that is bearded hence the common name Beard-Tongue.

Fruit: The small capsule is attached to the persistent calyx and the fruit is 2-locular. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
