Botanic information
Leaf: The mid to dark green banana-like oblong leaves have a prominent mid-rib and a long maroon coloured petiole. The margins are entire and the leaf blade splits apart in windy conditions.

Flower: The small tubulate flowers have 3-green sepals and petals with white tips and are arranged in boat-like bract that is orange-red with a green margin. These are arranged in a spike that is up to 300mm (1ft) long in a zig-zagging pattern in one-plane along the peduncle. The flowers appear during summer and persist on the plant for some time.

Fruit: The globular berry-like capsule contains 1 to 3 seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
