Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green lanceolate leaves tend to fold inwards and the apex is acuminate. They have a leathery texture with a narrowly winged petiole that normally has spines.

Flower: The stellate flowers are waxy with 5-petals and are borne solitary or in an axillarycluster during spring. They are not normally affected by late frosts.

Fruit: The small oval to oblong berry tends to ripen unevenly over a long period. Both the flesh and skin is edible. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
