Leaf: Ligule: fringe of hairs
Collar: broad and continuous
Auricles: absent
Vernation: rolled      Width is 3 mm.
The broad lanceolate dark green leaves have a stiff texture and respond well to mowing.

Flower: The inflorescence is short and spike-like with the spikelets laterally compressed. They appear during summer amongst the foliage.

Fruit: The tiny seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
