Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in flats and prick out when large enough to handle. Plant out at 1 m (3 ft) intervals.
Divide established clumps during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green narrow linear leaves taper to a point and turn orange-brown in autumn in cooler climates.
Ligule: short membrane with a fringe of long hairs
Collar: narrow and divided
Auricles: absent
Flower: The inflorescence is digitate or a spreading raceme on a short primary axis. The spikelets are awned and hairy, reddish brown turning beige during autumn. The flower heads appear throughout summer and are long lasting.
Fruit: The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
