Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring is a sandy mix and pot up into deep pots maintaining a temperature of 20º to 30º C.

Remove offsets during spring but transplanting may be difficult.

Culture
If grown in a glass house position in indirect well-lit area and plant in a deep pot in equal part loam and course washed sand and apply slow release complete fertiliser during the growing period..


Botanic information
Leaf: The pinnate leaves have a prominent mid rib and is composed of narrow oblong leathery textured leaflets that are up to 150mm (6in) long. The margin is sparsely serrated and the apex is sharply pointed.

Flower: The plant is dioecious and the yellowish cylindrical male cone is up to 500mm (20in) long, normally appearing in clusters 2-5. The larger ovoid female cone is up to 550mm (22in) long ans appears at the centre of the whorled leaves during summer.

Fruit: The yellow female cones becomes blackish when mature producing masses of red seeds that mature after falling to the ground. The seeds are toxic and should not be eaten. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
