Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring and keep moist but not wet as they are easily susceptible to root rot.
General pruning information
Lightly trim after flowering to thicken up, don`t cut back into old wood as it will encourage dieback and generally will not rejuvenate. The plant may die back from excessive rich soils.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are narrow-oblong and have a notched or obtuse apex. They are up to 30mm (1?in)wide and are pale green to yellow.
Flower: The tubulate flowers are elongated florets. These are surrounded by large soft bracts that are silvery-pink with black tips. The flower head is up to 150mm (6in) wide and 300mm (12in) long. They appear during spring and persist on the plant.
Fruit: The bearded nut is hidden in the fading bracts and contains viable seeds.
