Propagation
Remove offsets or suckers during the growing period and place in a well-drained moist media.
Take stem or nodal cuttings during spring.
Divide the rhizome of established clumps during spring.
Aerial layering is carried out during the growing period.
This plant is suitable for hydroponic culture and under the right conditions and is long lived. Maintain humidity and re-pot over crowded plants.
Note:
The leaves and stem contain calcium oxalate, which will cause swelling of the throat and speechlessness if eaten.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dull green leaves are elliptical to oblong with a whitish variegation along the centre of the leaf. The petiole is up to 350mm (14in) long.
Flower: The tiny cream flowers are enclosed in a spadix that appears amongst the foliage during summer and are not the feature of the plant.
Fruit: The small berries are not normally seenand the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
