Propagation
Remove offsets or suckers during spring and pot up into a well-drained organic rich moist soil.
Take stem or nodal cuttings during the growing period.
Divide the rhizome of established plants.
Aerial layering is used during the growing period.
Culture
It tolerates a low light position but dislikes draughts, large temperature changes and over watering. Maintain humidity and re-pot over crowded plants. This plant is suitable for hydroponic culture and under the right conditions it is long lived.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large glossy dark green elliptical leaves have a prominent mid rib and venation with some blotches or markings.
Flower: The spadix is enclosed by a leafy spathe that appears during early summer. It is an insignificant feature of the plant.
Fruit: The small berries are not often seen and the seeds may have endosperm. The seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
Note
The leaves and stem contain calcium oxalate, which will cause swelling of the throat and speechlessness if eaten.
