Propagation
Surface-sow fresh seeds and maintain a humid environment. After germination prick-out when large enough to handle.

Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a site, allowing ample room for it to grow as it has vigorous invasive roots that can lift concrete and block drains.


Botanic information
Leaf: The tiny triangular scale leaves appear in rings with 4 to 5 teeth and appear at the nodes along the drooping branchlets. The cladodes are dark to bronze green turning purplish during cool weather.

Flower: The male and female flowers appear on separate plants (dioecious). The reddish maleflowers appear in a spike at the ends of the branches and the reddish-orange ovoid female flowers appearon two-year-old wood from late summer to winter.

Fruit: The woody ovoid-globular to cylindrical cone-like fruit contains numerous capsules. It has a blunt apex and rough protuberances on the surface when the capsules open to releas small seeds.
