The dried roots and rhizome are used in herbal medicine to increase the body's resistance to infection, as an antiseptic, and as a treatment for coughs and colds.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to lanceolate with an acuminateapex. They are arranged alternately oroppositelyand have a course texture.

Flower: The daisy-like flowerheadhas orange-brown disk florets and white drooping ray florets. It is held above the foliage on a tall slender scape and appears during summer.

Fruit: The very small seeds are dispersed by wind. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
