Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in pots and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). The seeds may require scarification or pre soaking in acidic water for several hours to weaken the hard seed coat.
Take root cuttings during spring and place in a well-drained media.
This plant transplants easily when established.
Culture
The leaflets cast such a delicate shadow that it does not inhibit the growth of grass.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bipinnate mid green leaves have up to 60-falcate leaflets that are 12mm (½in) long andfold up during the night.
The brownish buds appear laterally and have 2-3 scales; there is no terminal bud.
Flower: The small apetalous flowers have thread-like pink stamens that are up to 25mm (1in) long giving it a characteristic powder-puff like appearance. They appear profusely and are arranged in a rounded plume-like terminal raceme during summer.
There is no terminal bud and lateral buds are small and round with 1 to 2 scales.
Fruit: The green to brown oblong strap-like legume is flat with undulating margins and without partitions. The fruit may persist throughout winter on the tree and the seeds are viable but the plant can be reproduced vegetatively.
