Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media and the seeds germinate readily.

Culture
This tree tolerates a prune after flowering to thicken up but care should be taken as the branches are brittle and thorny. Remove damaged branches back to the collar.
In cold climates mulch the roots with organic material such as straw to inhibit freezing.


Botanic information
Leaf: The trifoliate leaves have 3-short stalked glossy dark green elliptical leaflets that are up to 75 mm (3in) long and the leaf has a long petiole.

Flower: The attractive red papillionate flowers are arranged in large loose terminal raceme that is up to 600mm (24in) long and appear towards the end of the branches during summer.

Fruit: The large slender pods are constricted between the rounded, brown leathery texture seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is easily reproduced vegetatively.
