Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in spring in a prepared bed or place in an open frame to germinate.
Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a site, allowing ample room for it to grow as it has vigorous invasive roots that can lift concrete and block drains.
Botanic information
Leaf: The oblong to lanceolate leaves have a leathery texture and are pale yellow to green when young. The mid-rib is prominent and the leaf has a short petiole.
Flower: The ovoid male cones has spirally arranged sporophylls that appear in the leaf axils and the female cone has one or a few ovuliferous scales. They appear from spring to summer on different trees (dioecious).
Fruit: The fleshy cherry-like stalked fruit is blue-black when ripe and the seed appears at the bottom. The whitish flesh is edible.
