Botanic information
Leaf: The lanceolate bright green leaves are scabrous on the margins and the underside. They are 8 to 20mm (1in) wide by 600mm (2ft) long.

Flower: The spikelets are numerous and appear along each stem. They are yellow to brown becoming black and each spikelet has 5 to 6 glumes with the upper and lower enclosing the flowers. They appear from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The shinny brown nuts have three blunt angles and are pendulous. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
