Propagation
Fresh seed is rubbed together to loosen outer coating then allowed to soak for 24 hours before sown in a sandy mix and placed in a cool green house. Plant out during spring.

Cormlets taken from establish corms may be sown directly to the bed at a depth of 60 mm (2? in).

Note:
Plant for corms 60 mm (2? in) deep and space and 80 mm (3? in) apart with the pointed end up. During cultivation, remove spent flowers, but do not remove green foliage until it dies completely off as it is storing food in the corms for next year's growth.

Culture
Corms may be left undisturbed for 5-6 years or when lifted are stored and used for a summer or autumn replanting.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are linear to lanceolate up to 20 mm (µ in) wide with a prominent mid rib. They are arranged in flattened fan-like pattern from a basal tuft.

Flower: There are 5-7 slightly perfumed 6-pettled funnelform flowers that are arranged in a one-sided spike that is held above the foliage on a slender scape. They are available in a wide variety of colours that include white, pink collar apricot, lavender, yellow and carmine and appear during spring.

Fruit: The 3-celled capsule has an inferior ovary and contains numerous small seeds. The plan tends to self seed readily reverting to inferior types and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
