Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media then prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during late summer and placed on a misting bench.
Note:
Care should be taken when planting as the roots are invasive and can block drains damage foundations or lift pathways. For this reason councils tend not use it as a street tree.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dull dark green lanceolate leaves have 3 to 7 prominent parallel veins and is up to 20 mm (µ in) wide. They have a stiff leathery texture and an acute apex and a short reddish petiole.
Flower: The creamy-white cyathiform flowers have exserted stamens and a faint honey-like fragrance. They are arranged in a cylindrical spike that is up to 70 mm (2? in) long by 45 mm (1µ in) wide and appear at the end of the branches from autumn to winter.
Fruit: The greyish woody capsule has exerted valves and is persistent on the plant for up to one year. The capsules contain are numerous small seeds that are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
