Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are elliptical to oblong, up to 50 mm (2 in) wide and have a prominent acuminate drip tip. The leaf colour becomes paler in full sun.

Flower: The tiny flowers are enclosed on the inside walls of the developing fruit and are produced through the year. They are arranged in the leaf axils towards the end of the branches.

Fruit: The globular green fruit ages to red appearing in the leaf axils singularly or in pairs. It is very attractive to bats which excrete the seed onto branches of other trees, where they germinate and form aerial roots. Indoor plants rarely produce fruit. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively in order to maintain true to type.
