Propagation
Divide a mature clump every 3 to 4 years and the bulbs may be stored in a cool and dry position or re-planted immediately, in a warm temperate climate. Planting depth is 120 mm (4µ in) to 190 mm (7 in).

Culture
Remove spent flowers to reduce seed production and allow foliage to remain until it turns yellow and the bulbs may remain undisturbed for many years.
Lift and divide bulbs when they become congested, use low nitrogen high potash fertiliser.

Botanic information
Leaf: The long linearleaves stand upright from a basal tuft and are up to 15 mm (? in) wide with an obtuse apex. The length and colour variesdepending on the cultivar and the leaves should remain on the plant until they turn yellow.

Flower: The flower size varies depending on the cultivar but is generally composed of 6-broad petals and a ring-like corona that forms a cup or trumpet shaped. The nodding flowers appear singularly or in a cluster above the foliage on a tall slender scape during spring. The flower colour varies from white to pale yellows, bright golden yellows, pink and red depending on cultivar.

Fruit: The berries are normally removed to allow the plants energy to be directed towards the bulbs and produce improved flowering in the following season. The small seeds that are produced are viable but the plants are commonly reproduced vegetatively, to maintain true to type.
