Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe as the viability period is short in a well-drained media and keep them warm and moist. The seeds germinate within 8 weeks and pot up into deep containers to allow for the vigorous growth.
Botanic information
Leaf: The costapalmate fronds are yellowish green to grey green up to 2.6 m (8 ft) wideand the segments divided up to half way to the leaf base and accompanied with long white threads. Dead fronds form a skirt that if not pruned will cover the entire trunk. The armed petiole is up to 2 m (6 ft) long, becoming brought towards the base and is green to reddish-brown.
Flower: The inflorescence arises at the leaf base and extending well beyond it with an arching rhachis that has several branchlets and is persistent after flowering. The spadices are up to 5 m (15 ft) long. The unisexual flowers are whitish appearing during the warmer months.
Fruit: The ovoid drupe is brown-black and slightly wrinkledand up to 5 mm (? in) wide.They are produced profusely and are arranged in large pendant clusters.
