Propagation
Sow seeds during spring when ripe. They germinate in 2 to 3 months if keep moist with bottom heat.

Culture
Mature plants may be transplanted for and instant landscaping effect but are slow to recover.
When pruning, be careful of the sharp spines and leave a short piece of the leaf base on the stem for a pegged appearance.


Botanic information
Leaf: The imparipinnate fronds have glossy dark green linear leaflets. They have an acuminate apex and are arranged evenly along the rachis and have a powdery white underside. The leaf base is persistent on the trunk giving a rough appearance.

Flower: The small flowers are arranged in a pendant panicle that is up to 300mm (1ft) long and is well branched. It arises amongst the leaf bases and the male and female flowers appear on different plants. (Dioecious).

Fruit: The small black egg shaped (ellipsoidal) drupe has a thin fleshy layer and is edible but not desirable.
