Propagation
Seed is slow to germinate taking up to 6 months. Remove outer shell before sowing and keep moist. Seedlings are slow growing.


Botanic information
Leaf: The imparipinnate fronds are arching or recurving with spines on the petiole. The blue-green leaflets are numerous and tapering in an upward direction forming a 'V' shape.

Flower: The flowers are creamy-yellow and appear from lower fronds in a pendant panicle during summer. The large woody bracts are up to 1m (3 ft) long and persist on the plant turning purplish at maturity.

Fruit: The drupe is oblong-ovoid, yellow to orange-red, pulpy and fibrous. The persistent petals and sepals are attached to the base and the fruit can be made into wine or jelly.
