Propagation
Fresh seed must be used and germination varies from 2 months to 24 months and may need scarification. Keep moist and warm with ample aeration.


Botanic information
Leaf: The imparipinnate fronds have leaflets that are arranged in a horizontal plane evenly along the midrib. They have a soft flat appearance, drooping downwards and the underside is spotted and scaly. The leaf stalk is up to 2m (6ft) long and has grey fibres at the base.

Flower: The inflorescence is up to 1m (3ft) long and has 3 to 5 unbranched spikes that are fused at the base on flattened stalks and appear from the leaf bases. The 2-small creamy-brown male flowers accompany a single green female flower.
Note
The male flowers have 3-overlapping sepals and 3-larger woody petals with numerous stamens and a sterile pistil.

Fruit: The ellipsoid shaped drupes are up to 50mm (2 in) long or a very thin fibrous outer layer and the dry seeds ripen orange to deep dull red.
