Propagation
Surface sow fresh seeds when ripe (early spring) in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 19º to 24º C. (66º to 77º F). Germination takes from 1 to 3 months. Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle and plant out after all risk of frost has passed.

Division of offsets in early spring and place in a moist sandy media until roots appear.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are obovate to spathulate and the upper surface is heavily veined and covered in fine tomentose. The petiole is short and the leaves are arranged in a basil tuft.
Care should be taken when handling as they may cause a skin rash.

Flower: The salverform flowers have 5 to 6 petals and are arranged in a terminal umbel that is held above the foliage on leafless scape that is up to 250 mm (9µ in) long. The colours include pink, white, yellows, reds, oranges, purples and blues and appear from autumn to spring.

Fruit: The small capsule has 5-10 valves and releases numerous tiny seedsup to10,000 per gram. The small seeds are vailable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
Care should be taken when handling the plant as it may cause skin irritation or allergic reaction. The seeds are poisonous if ingested.
